Style Me Friday: Red Trousers & Stripes

Happy Friday, Lovelies! Well, we made it through another week.  I hope you had a great one. This week flew by… heck this MONTH flew by! can you believe it is September 2 already? Wasn’t it January 1 just a few weeks ago? I guess that’s want happens when you become “an adult.”  Anyway, enough rambling. It’s time for another Style Me Friday!  I received such great feedback from last week’s look.  THANK YOU!!! In case you missed it, let me explain what Style Me Friday is all about.  The idea is for YOU to style ME! You submit a look and I’ll recreate it. The look can be from anywhere on the web… a celebrity, a retail look book, another blog…as long as you can find a picture, you can submit it! (Just be sure to leave a link so I can link back).  Find all the details and rules for submission here!

Today’s Style Me Friday look was submitted by Audrey of Chronicles of a Future Wife and before I get into the look, I want to tell you guys about a special series Audrey is working on for her blog — The Whole Woman Workshop.  In this workshop, Audrey is addressing the WHOLE woman — mind, body, spirit… and style of course.  She will be sharing encouraging words and stories from a group of fab bloggers, life coaches, makeup artists, and more. Please do check it out! Oh, and did I mention that I am one of those feature bloggers? Yep, that’s right! and I am so honored that she considered me someone who’s story and perspective on style would be beneficial to her readers. WOW. (and my buddy Reiko from God’s Favorite Shoes is also being featured! HI REIKO!!)

Okay, so back to the look. When I received Audrey’s email, I was thrilled because the look she submitted wasn’t totally my style.  It’s a little more put together than what I’d normally wear… and a little matchy matchy for my taste.  You all know my style is a tad bit off kilter. Lol.  You know what that means…CHALLENGE!!! This look really challenged me to flex my styling muscles and make the look all  my own…

So, I swapped out the black and white striped tee with a white and navy striped tee.  Notice the navy stripes are much thinner than the stripes on Monica’s top.  The thick black stripes against the red pants is a little harsh, but opting for a white tee with thin navy stripes softens the look a little bit.  I also replaced the wide black belt with a medium width tan leather belt worn through the belt loops.  Again, the brown really softens the look.  Since it’s still summer, I replaced Monica’s closed toe black shoes with a pair of tan sandals.  And of course, in true Eboni fashion (no pun intended), I tied the look together with a leopard clutch (duh!) How did I do?

I am totally getting hang of the whole “arm candy” concept. For some reason layering bracelets was really hard for me to grasp. I was pretty proud of myself today. LOL! and I am still loving my Mimi’s Leather and Gold Chain bracelet!  It really is a great layering piece.

Victoria Secret Christie Flare Pant | Old Tee | DIY Raven Bag | Old Belt | Versace Sunnies | Mimi’s Leather & Gold Chain Bracelet | Assorted Bangles.

So, what are the takeaways from this week’s Style Me Friday?

  1. Know yourself.  Remember fashion and style are not the same thing.  Style is how YOU interpret fashion.  My outfit is ALMOST identical to Monica’s, but my interpretation showcases MY STYLE.
  2. Accessories make all the difference. Swapping out the belt and shoes, and adding the clutch changed the direction of this look completely (and again made the look my style).
  3. When you’re looking for inspiration, look at all of the pieces individually.  I would have passed on this look as a source of inspiration because the look as a whole doesn’t suit my style BUT with a little push from Audrey, I took it apart…looked at the pieces individually…and put them back together my own way…and I loved it! Sometimes you just have to approach fashion with a good analytical eye. (hehe!)

Submit looks for next week’s Style Me Friday here!

Have a GREAT weekend!!!

Lady, I love this look on you! It's funny because I wore an outfit almost identical to this last week. My boss called it my DFWM outfit (Don't F*ck With Me). It's a fun, bright and tough look. I love how you are allowing yourself to step out of your comfort zone on these Fridays. Such fun! I love your looks on your own, but these are a great way to see more sides of your style as well!
