Happy Friday, Lovelies! It’s our favorite day of the week again…Style Me Friday! (I know, I know… this blog doesn’t likely have much to do with why you love Fridays, but humor me LOL). Okay, so I’m just gonna jump right into it with no stories because I’m trying to get this post in before I go to bed and I just got back from a really fun event (more on that later)…and I’m tired! and I am mad at myself for not stopping for french fries on the way home. I was trying to be good. Anyway, I said no stories!
Today’s look was submitted by the beautiful and talented Shanda over at ShandArt and The Journey to My Dreams. Shanda is a FABULOUS illustrator. I like to embarrass her and tell everybody that she is actually the illustrator behind all those fabulous sketches we saw last season on Single Ladies. Mmm Hmm, that’s her! She has even does some illustrations of me, but I am a horrible friend and I have not shared them here on the blog yet. I’m gonna get my life together soon, I promise. Anyway, Shanda sent over this picture of Kate Middleton yesterday, and I kinda loved it! Oh, and I got a really funny comment about my entire look at the event — someone told me they like the “whole Hillary Banks thing” I had going on. LOL! I can dig it! In fact, I actually thought the same thing when I looked at my hair this afternoon.

As you can see, I am back to my tried and true bantu knot-out after several weeks of flat-twist outs. I think it’s time for another hair update! I can see why they call this a “hair journey” — I learn something new about my hair every day! Anyway, I’ll get to workin’ on that update. Maybe I’ll do a video this time (with notes, so I don’t ramble… like I’m doing right now. LOL). Do you now someone left a comment on one of my videos that said “You talk a looooot.” LOL. All I could do was laugh because I know it’s true….Ann Taylor Blazer (thrifted) | GAP Perfect Tee layered under Mossimo V-neck Sweater ($18) | Old Dollhouse Cropped Jeans via TJ Maxx (Similar at Old Navy, $24.99) | Bandolino Boots | Braided Crystal Collar c/o Mimi’s, the Look for Less | Coach Bag circa 2007
“Style Me Friday” Insights on Personal Style
I actually had two insights on this outfit…
- The event I went to tonight was a last minute affair, so this morning I began to reconsider using this outfit thinking that it wasn’t dressy enough. I even mentioned to someone on Twitter that I was looking for a new look for today. Ultimately, I decided to stick with my original plan and make it work — which meant dressing it up a bit! This lead me to two conclusions:
- First, one of the reasons I get so frustrated with getting dressed these days is because I am suffering from inspiration overload, and I don’t have an outlet because I work from home. When I finally get out of the house, all the inspiration comes to a head and I want to wear EVERYTHING all at once. I start to over think my outfits instead of keeping it simple and sticking with my first mind.
- Second, It’s all in the details! Sure, Kate’s version of this outfit is very casual — to0 casual to wear to an event in my opinion, but my outfit was perfect for an event because of the details! My double-breasted jacket is a more classic and tailored cut than Kate’s cropped jacket, which instantly kicks the look up a notch… and the buttons add a bit of flare. My shiny leather, pointy-toe boots have a dressier feel than Kate’s riding style boots. And to tie it all together, I added some kick a** accessories in the form of a statement necklace and an arm party (I told you guys I love this necklace!) It all came together quite nicely, in a preppy chic kinda way!
Last thing before I go — the final Reader Appreciation Giveaway! This giveaway is sponsored by yours truly and I kinda just threw it in last minute, but I think you guys will love it all the same. I just thought it would be fun to giveaway one of Shanda’s designs. She really is super talented! and did I mention she is right here in Atlanta? Anyway, she illustrated these greeting cards that I kinda love and I figured you, my fellow shoe-obsessed friends, would love them as much as I do. So, I am giving away one set of greeting cards (set of 6) to one lucky reader! and if you don’t win, don’t worry! The cards are available on Etsy for just $15! Believe it or not, the best part about these greeting cards is not the designer shoe inspiration (although, they are quite fabulous!), but no…that’s not it. The best part is 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these cards goes to the Show Me Shoes Foundation.
