Turtlenecks & Faux Fur (Yep, It’s Cold)

Happy Wednesday! Wednesday is a bittersweet day of the week. It means the week is half-over (yay)…and it also means the week is half-over (drag). LOL! In other words, I still have a lot of crap to do before Friday! I won’t bore you with the details. Let’s just get on with the outfit…
I bought this Merona turtleneck over the weekend at Target. It was on sale for $8! Yippee! But even the regular price is great at 12 bucks! I will be stocking up. I like these particular turtlenecks because they are knit jersey, which is just a little lighter than the sweater variety. They also work much better as layering pieces and hold their shape well. I don’t know what’s gotten into me, but lately I have been craving basics. I am sure it has something to do with NEVER being able to find a plain shirt when I need one. I mentioned before that I am a statement piece shopper. I walk into a store with t-shirts and tanks on my list, and I walk out of the store with a leopard print trousers. LOL! What can I say? At least I stuck to my budget and only bought one or the other. Hehe.
I also think my latest obsession with basics could have something to do with my new commitment to “getting dressed” everyday. I think it’s much easier to pull together a casually cute look with basics. So with that in mind, in addition to this red turtleneck I also purchased two Old Navy turtlenecks — one back and one white. They were $6 when I bought them on mega sale a couple weeks ago, but right now they are $15 on line and $12 in store…still not bad! I also bought two Old Navy scoop-neck tees during the sale — currently $12 in store and $15 online. A quick note about these scoop-neck tees — the fit is PERFECT!! They remind of those u-neck bodysuits at American Apparel, except without the pesky bodysuit panty. They are perfectly body skimming, fitting really smooth and close to the body with the scoop neckline in the back and front. So, I guess it’s the not-so-basic basic. I love it! LOL. I need to buy more colors and I am actually kicking myself for not buying all the colors while they were on sale.
L ‘affaire Faux Fur Vest via Ideeli (similar by BB Dakota, $57) | Merona Turtleneck, $8| Old Navy Skinny Cargo Pants circa 2010 (similar at GAP, $20) | BCBGeneration Leopard Pumps via eBay (Similar by Sole Society, $49.99) | Braided Crystal Collar c/o Mimi’s, the Look for Less (I know, I need a new necklace) | Coach Bag circa 2007
Can we talk about my hair briefly? Last, week was full of great hair days and I was reminded why I love my bantu knots out so much. This morning, I was reminded why I switched to the flat twist out in the first place! Twelve hours and my damn bantu knots were still not dry! the result is these flat, not so bouncy curls you see before you. The bantu knots are like an all day production. Cute, but not nearly as practical as the twist-outs. I must find a happy medium.
Question for you guys…
Thanks for all of your encouraging words about my little challenge here. Like I said before, it is nice to know that I am not the only one out there who struggles with the practicality of getting dressed for your home office. Several of you guys mentioned joining me! YIPPEE!! I actually considered opening this up to you guys in the first place, but I know there are a ton of blogger challenges going on out there, and I didn’t want to add another to the list (and mostly, I am just scared of rejection LOL). If you guys really think I should make this a “formal” challenge, leave a comment below and I’ll think about doing a weekly link up so you guys can show off your “Home Office Style”, and maybe I can create a badge. Would anybody be interested in that?? (Again, I’m scared of rejection! Go easy on me!)
On that same note, several of you also recommended that I do a “Style Me Friday” link-up where you guys can show your intepretations of outfits I’ve recreated. I was thinking I could showcase my look on Friday as usual, and you guys could link up your looks the following Friday. I wouldn’t want to do both challenges simultaneously, but perhaps I can start the Style Me Friday link-ups after the “Home Office Style” challenge is over??? I don’t know… these are just some ideas that I’ve had. Please feel free to share your thoughts!
Thanks for stopping by!! xoxo

Such a fan of this look. I am obsessed with turtlenecks. And faux fur vests. Or maybe I just like great style. I think the Home Office Style challenge would be a hit. You have a lot of followers who admire your style and blog so I know it would be a success. A lot of us work from home so to get up and get dressed can be a challenge. I can certainly relate. I say "DO IT!"

I like this mix of the casual pants and turtle neck with the glam fur, necklace and shoes. Very nice lady.

I think the Home Office Style is an adorable challenge. I've been on and off employed but I have my blog, an Etsy shop, and a crochet and jewelry business…so I "work" from home! I'll even do OOTD pictures which I know is challenge but worth the challenge…sign me up! lol

The fur vest with that red turtleneck is just a fabius combination! I’ve been on the hunt for a fur vest, but can’t find the right one.

Pure Hotness! I love basics, they are the easiest to accessories and look like you did a lot, by not even trying.

I don't work from home (boo!) so I couldn't really participate in the first challenge, but I do think it is a great idea! Also, I LOVE the Style Me Friday feature and would like to be involved in that because, well, mainly I think you are the bomb diggidy and want to copy you.
I LOVE your fur vest. I have the same problem with statement pieces too. I love them, but they leave little room for basics in my closet. I've tried to be better about that. We'll see what happens. Thanks again for the Twitter mention. You make my day!

I really like this look a lot. I really love turtlenecks and never considered pairing it with a faux fur vest. Great look! I love both ideas, especially the work from home challenge, since I often work from home. I really love the color palette you are wearing:-)

Oh, I think the "work-from-home" challenge is exactly what I've been looking for to get in to the "style" blogging thing
. My problem is all I have are basics so it would be fun to see how I could work it out! Let's do it
!
You look great. This is what i dream of looking like. I’m def a casual girl, and I don’t think I’ll ever wear leopard pants lol so I’m loving the looks with basics.
You look great! I'm still on the hunt for a faux fur vest but haven't found one yet that isn't expensive or really cheap looking, and I want neither, lol! By the way, is this your front door? It's such a cool photo spot! Although I'd probably be afraid to take pictures of my front door in case someone recognizes it (oh hi, paranoia!), I'm a little jealous

Super cute outfit. I love the fab details such as the fur vest, leopard print pumps, and the braided crystal collar. Too FAB!!!
LOVE the look! I would love to see a "Home Office Style" challenge from you and would be down for the Style Me Friday link up as well. Keep inspiring the masses to step out their style boxes. And now I am on the hunt fora fur vest of my own. Oh as for the hair, I'd reccomend the "Curly Nikki" Twist and Curl for you, I think it'd look great on you. I just saw someone on BGLH that did it and it was awesome (http://bglhonline.com/2011/10/fly-out-styles-the-tnc-curly-fro/).

I would most definitely do the Home Office Style and the Style Me Friday link up! Visiting the blog has given me power to wear inspired looks and not feel like a biter/wannabe!!
