Skate It or Hang It at W Atlanta – Midtown

Last weekend, the W Atlanta – Midtown invited me to come out to an after party they hosted along with MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) for the official opening day of the Skate It or Hang It? The Evolution of Skateboard Art exhibit.  Fab and Beans joined me, and we had such a great time!  Cool skateboard art, mojitos, and sliders. Yes, please! (side note: If you’ve never had a stawberry mojito at the W Midtown, do yourself a favor and make you way on down there ASAP and order one!  So. Freakin. Good.  So good in fact, that I slurped it down before I could get a picture!  But I did get a snap of the Orangina mojitio, which was equally refreshing!)

First of all, you always know you’re in for a treat when you attend an event at the W.  All of the properties are so nice and swanky!  They got the party started in the Living Room patio and bar area.  If you’ve been to the W Midtown, you know the patio overlooks the front driveway, which they turned into a pop up skate park complete with ramps for a live demo. YES!

This brought back such fond memories for me.  When I was in high school, I sat on a Youth Advisory Council that basically advised City Council on initiatives for the youth in my city.  We had a HUGE skater community, but the city had some pretty strict regulations about wear skaters could skate…you could actually get a ticket for it! So, one of our biggest accomplishments was getting a $100,000 grant to build a skateboard part in the city!  We were so proud of ourselves…

Anyway, the Skate it or Hang It exhibit will be at MODA until September 16.   If the boards they had displayed in the Living Room patio are any indication of  what’s in store, you should go check it out.  I plan to!

Thanks for stopping by!! XOXO.

So awesome! I have one son who is an avid skateboarder and another who's a great artist who designed a skateboard for his younger brother, so I totally dig this! Also, my oldest son works for a city youth program (summer gig) where he paints murals for similar events. Great post!! http://www.askniab.com
