Channelling Elizabeth Taylor: Modern Style Inspired by Old Hollywood Elegance!

Where are all my Lifetime movie lovers out there?  What is it about those movies? I swear you can get sucked in and spend your whole day watching them back to back…in fact, I confess that I am hoping for a few Lifetime movie days with my grandma, aunts, and cousins this holiday season.  It’s kind of a holiday tradition! Lol.  So, if you’re a lifetime fan like me, I am sure you’ve heard about Liz & Dick, the new Lifetime Original Movie based on Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s legendary love affair, which premieres Sunday, November 25th.  Lifetime and Elizabeth Taylor? This is going to be good y’all! Not to mention, Lindsay Lohan is making her acting comeback in the roll of Liz! I am actually a big Lindsay Lohan fan, so I’ll be happy to see her back on the “big screen” (of my living room! Lol) instead the TMZ screen, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, when you think about the life of Elizabeth Taylor, many things come to mind, one of which is her undeniable sense of style…a style born out of an era characterized by unabashed glamour and elegance.  The thing about the Hollywood starlets of that time is there was no occasion too small for a bit of sparkle and luxury! And that’s not to say that these ladies didn’t do casual…they most certainly did, but it was so much more refined than modern casual…even their weekend wear had a bit of glamorous flair to it.  So, this past Saturday, with a full day of brunch and shopping ahead, I let the starlets of Hollywood past inspire me!  Usually, I would have thrown on a pair skinny jeans, a comfy sweater, and flats, but instead I channeled my inner Hollywood Starlet for a look that was one part Liz and one part Audrey!

3 tips for capturing a bit of old Hollywood elegance for a look that is modern and glamorous!

Daytime Glitz – A sparkly top works for any occasion! Pair it with a casual or tailored bottom for a look that will take you from day to night. Add a Sparkly Accessory – Liz Taylor is known as much for her jewels as she is for her movies! I am sure she’d agree that every outfit needs a bit of sparkle. Of course, we don’t all have Richard Burton around to shower us with white diamonds, but any sparkly accessory will do.  Try a sparkly headband instead of jewelry for something fun and unexpected. Throw on a Luxe Topper – Nothing says Hollywood glam like plush fur! And, these days there are so many amazing faux fur options for every budget.  If a faux fur coat is too much for your tastes (or your climate!), try mixed medium coat with a fur collar or a vest.  Fur scarves and snoods are also a great option!

Eyelash Stripe Tee (LOFT, $49) | Old Cropped Trousers (similar, $35) | ‘Liv’ Loafers (ShoeDazzle, $40 BOGO) | Vintage Faux Fur Coat via eBay (similar, $63) | Leopard Clutch (Target, $15) | Earrings c/o C. Wonder | Target Headband (Similar,$16)

Lindsay Lohan stars as the legendary dame Elizabeth Taylor alongside Grant Bowler as celebrated actor Richard Burton in the Lifetime Original Movie Liz & Dick, making its world premiere Sunday, November 25, at 9pm ET on Lifetime.  Based on the true story of the couple’s passionate and tumultuous love affair Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were Hollywood royalty and their fiery romance — often called “the marriage of the century” — was the most notorious, publicized and celebrated love affair of its day. http://www.mylifetime.com/movies/liz-and-dick

  1. Love this look! You look great in flats and heels. I want to incorporate more flats into my wardrobe but I feel I look so stocky with flat shoes…I need a heel to lengthen me. So, I'm hating a lil' bit on you :-) j/k!
