Style Me Friday, Week 32: The Button Up Shirt

Happy Friday!!! I overslept today, so I’m a little groggy trying to write this.  You know how your brain takes like 30 second breaks between thoughts because you’re awake, but it’s not? That’s the zone I’m in right now.  I think I better keep it brief. Lol!

I have quite a few button up shirts.  Have I mentioned my big arms? Well yeah, nothing conceals big arms like a button up shirt! I recently picked up this cotton number along with two others at H&M during their buy two, get one free sale. I think I paid about $5 for it.  Yippee! I was inspired by Taylor Tomasi Hill’s super simple floral blouse + skinny jeans + pumps combo.  Since my overall color palette was soft and muted, I went with a leopard print pumps instead of a solid.  (In retrospect, I wish I’d gone with a bolder color palette, but oh well!)

I also tried something different with my button up shirt.  Instead of just buttoning and tucking, I tried my hand at creating a faux surplice neckline.  I buttoned just one button, then I wrapped each shirt end around to the opposite side, and tucked them into my jeans.  Does that make sense?  I really loved the outcome! It was super cute, and a great way to add shape and waist definition to a boxier button-up shirt.

I also layered on my new Aeropostale floral camo jacket .  I don’t think it’s available online anymore but you can in store.  I think the muted peach and olive print of the shirt pairs backed to the olive camo print so well….and y’all know how I LOVE layering and print mixing.  I couldn’t resist.

Those jeans look great on you! I'll have to try to tuck my shirt in that way I think it would look great with a pencil skirt – great look for work! :)

The faux surplice is genius! Before I read the text I was thinking 'where did she get that wrap around button down?' Hahaha! It pays to read and not just look at the pretty pictures. Note to self.
