I’m baaaaack…from vacation that is! How has everybody been? While I’ll admit that the weight of returning to work (and the blog) is starting to hit me, I do feel quite refreshed after a long, and much needed vacation. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have noticed that my vacay didn’t go quite as planned. Instead of going to Cabo, my trip was rerouted to Vegas due to gosh darn tropical storm…Tropical Storm Lorena to be exact. My girls and I got all the way to the gate…ALL. THE. WAY. TO. THE. GATE…and then came the first announcement…our flight was delayed due to bad weather. And, then came the second announcement…our flight, and every flight for the next two days had been canceled. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! My friends and I sat there in disbelief for about 10 full minutes…while everyone else on our flight lined up at the counter to ask about refunds, and luggage, and baggage fees, we just sat there. When the shock wore off, we called our travel agent with one goal — WE HAD TO REROUTE OUR VACATION! Vacay could NOT be canceled. Lol. We had no luck with getting our vacay package transferred to another resort, so we settled for a full refund…booked a hotel in Vegas…rented a car…and hit the road! Not exactly the vacation we had in mind, but we had a great time, nonetheless. I mean…it’s Vegas. I could think of worst places to spend a week with friends, ya know?
Anyway, while I was in Vegas, I just happened to pass a Sephora on a the strip. The Marc Jacobs display was calling my name…I’d been wanting to try out the hi-shine nail lacquer. I picked up Nirvana - a deep, dark army green with a super shiny finish. I don’t think these photos are doing the color justice. The green is a bit more evident in real life, but it is a very dark green.
The Marc Jacobs beauty line is still relatively new, and for many the verdict is still out on whether or not the products are worth the luxury price tag. These nail lacquers will run you $18 a pop…pretty pricy for a single bottle of nail polish. So, is it worth it? Well, honestly it’s hard to tell based on one use with a single color from the collection, but my first impression? I. LOVE. IT.
The Word On the Streets
Before I get into my thoughts, let me first share what the polish claims, and what I heard about it on the blogs before I bought it. According to the folks at Marc Jacobs, the nail lacquers claim to deliver a “plasticized, wet look” in “rich creams and fine glitters [that] ensure vivid, chip-resistant wear.” After reading a few blog reviews, it became clear that the claims about the shine were absolutely true! Overall, reviews about the formula were mixed, but everyone agreed the shine was extraordinary. In fact, the polish is so shiny that you don’t need a top coat. I also read a few reviews that claimed the formula was super opaque, requiring only one or two coats, and super quick drying. Shiny, opaque, and quick drying? That’s basically everything I wanted in a nail polish. Of course, there were some naysayers who felt the formula was too watery…or too thick, but honestly, I found way more good reviews than bad. Needless to say, I was excited to try it.
My First Impression
So, how did I like it? Well, I already let the cat out of the bag. My first experience with the product was great. I thought the formula was perfect. It wasn’t too watery, or too thick, and it applied smoothly. I started with my Revlon ColorStay base coat (it’s my fave!), followed by two coats of the Marc Jacobs lacquer. Two coats are a must, and I will say that the first coat was a little bit streaky. The second coat applied like a dream, leaving behind an opaque, SUPER shiny, smooth wet looking finish (just like the box claimed). I usually use Seche Vite quick dry top coat, but I skipped it because I wanted to test the quick drying claim, and also see if the polish retained it’s shine after it dried.
I am happy to report that the polish dried SUPER fast…not as fast as Seche Vite, but fast enough for me to get up and live my life within about 7 – 10 minutes of applying the second coat. Ten minutes is my max for sitting still to let my nails dry. I seriously have no patience, and have been known to smudge tacky nails. And, as far as the shine goes…well, 48 hours later, my nails are still shiny and wet looking like they were just painted…with no top coat! I’ll have to check in with you guys at the end of the week on the chipping, but so far so good.
Would I Buy It Again?
At $18 a pop, I probably won’t be stocking up on the entire collection, but the line has some really pretty, and unique colors that are supposed to be inspired by MJ’s fave movies. I was pretty impressed with the formula and the shine, and if get through an entire week chip-free, I’ll be sold. I definitely plan on picking up a couple more colors, but not before scouring the blogs to find out which shades have quality dupes already on the market. So far, I’ve got my eye on these four colors…
Have you tried Marc Jacobs Nail Lacquer?
