Wednesday Wisdom: Do More of What Makes You Happy…

do-more-of-what-makes-you-happy As someone who lives in a constant state of busy-ness, this is a good reminder to carve out time for the things that really make me happy.  I’m terrible at this, you guys.  Fab gets on my case all the time because I live such a “task-based” life.  I just go from one task to the next, marking things off my list of things to do from sun up to sun down…and then ever so often I have a breakdown because day-to-day life feels like a never ending hamster wheel.  Do you know the feeling?

The truth is all the “obligations” aren’t going anywhere, so if I put life on pause for just a minute (or an hour) to do something for me…something that makes me happy, am I really going to set myself back that much?  Probably not.  Besides, when I spend time doing things that I love, I find that I can work on things that I don’t love so much with renewed energy and focus because I’m not so mentally drained.

This weekend, I’m going on a much needed mini girls getaway with my girl Cher.  Girl time is one of the things I don’t make nearly enough time for since I moved to Atlanta.  Back home I would see my girls literally 3 or 4 times a week, but between building new friendships in a new city, adjusting to married life, and managing this blog (essentially a part time job in addition to my full-time job), I don’t really set aside a lot of time to just hang out and do girl stuff.  So this weekend, I’ll be doing TWO things that makes me really happy, and that’s spending some time with my girl…and lounging on the beach (have I mentioned how much I miss living in a coastal state?!  I didn’t realize how much I loved the beach until I didn’t have access to it anymore.)

What makes you happy?

  1. Great post! I had to laugh because I've recently started feeling like this. Especially the breaking down part, lol. The stress and demands we put on ourselves is crazy sometimes. Like you, it's been a task to adjust to marriage and maintain a blog, full-time job and everyday life, LOL!

I guess I'm taking a page out of your book – I'm doing something this weekend for me. I'm taking a yoga class and getting my hair done. Simple, but necessary. Just some well needed me time. I'm glad you're getting a chance to enjoy your girlfriends. Have fun…xo!
